trout parrot flower joy collage
hooray....i arted today.....
i've done this flower collage...with ceramic lettered disks.......pink...yellow....green......today, i added some darker yellow stamping on an already dictionaried and pale yellow canvas....i painted the disks......i glued all the leaves and such down......and then i fretted that it was ALL too high on the canvas......sometimes in art like this, i have a horizon line....a background...a table top...but i don't always, and didn't here...but if i added that horizon line it might weight it all down so that the flowers don't look too high on the canvas......so.....i have this groooooovy container where i sort colored buttons.....it is beautiful and full...and i took out all the black ones....and make a table top....a black kitchen counter (as julia called it) ....... and found a few bits of black this and thats to add to it.....and then didnt' glue it down....ha....couldn't do it...i'm second guessing myself and think i might should get out the trusty black ...or pink...or green....sharpie and write a story in the background......the top could be one color, the table top another......or not.....i'm still stewing on this one......waitiing til i know what the right way to go will be.......
and now, why don't you jump over to my flickr site.....the first two pics today are from my studio....my three kids all painted with me today.......on the pics in flickr i've added the groovy cool note boxes and i have deconstructed the shots......they are very informative, i believe.......

next collage, all planned out....and i'm wondering how on earth it istaking me this long to get to it...know what i mean.....what's thepoint o
alas, i have done no art today.....instead...i was earning a month's worth of good mommy points by taking my kids to white water.....the giant water park just north of atlanta......it was the fifth and final day of happy week with allison......the seven of us are water logged and weary.....
i had every intention of coming home and working on this piece...but i can no more pry myself off this couch than fly to the moon......and when i do pry myself up, it will be to trudge off to bed on feet with weary soles.....ha...the weary soles of the weary souls......i crack myself up....i'm a bit giddy tired, perhaps......and my feet hurt from slapping them barefoot for 6 or 7 hours......
so, to you (who are yoU?), ....and to myself....i PROMISE that i will at least work on this piece tomorrow....if not finish it all together.......not to mention i have a deadline coming up.....tuesday....and i HAVE NOT started that piece......procrastinators of the world unite......oh....i should save that thought for my blog tomorrow......
stay tuned...
will e dry out.... (e is waterlogged, not imbibing)
will e's feet quit hurting......(e hopes so)
will e actually make it to her 8 a.m. tennis date? (foolish e!)
will e really do her trout parrot piece that has been waiting for her? (can you really call a painting trout parrot, e?)
will e ever begin her deadline tuesday piece? (hopefully sooner than later!)
will e ever stop asking rhetorical questions? (well, probably not, actually....just like she's not going to start doing shorter titles anytime soon either.....)
stay tuned.....stay tuned.......

today's good things: 10 of them......
i've been thinking about angels.....hold that thought.......
i did no art today ...... but had a grand day anyway......
good thing 1: ten of us went biking today....3 adults, 7 children......i (four of us actually, including the two smallest kids) rode about six miles.......the others maybe went eight or nine....it was hot and sweaty and fabulous.......
good thing 2: we picked wild blackberries along the side of the path.....there weren't just a couple blackberry bushes....there were seemingly MILES of blackberries......the little red ones made the bushes gorgeous, but it was those fat black ones that tasted divine...... it felt like a finding a secret treasure......
good thing 3: free refills of mongo-huge popcorns at the movies
good thing 4: after our hot, sweaty bike ride we went to a lovely, air conditioned movie theater
good thing 5: we saw our SECOND great movie of the week.....what are the odds of that?
good thing 6: evan almightyy was a sweet and dear story about a dude that chats with god......god was lovely and funny....the guy learned great lessons......the wife learned good lessons ......**i** learned lovely lessons......and it was a charming wholesome movie for my kids......
good thing 7: i took my rattle trap bike to the bike store for a tune up.....it was well past time!
good thing 8: i just finished a GREAT book.....about heaven....and god's name was raymond...and his wife was dorothy.....how's that for peculiar......fanny flagg's book, can't wait to get to heaven.....i really loved it...her books are always quirky and fun.....i sometimes think they are a bit disjointed with too many characters and story lines, more like short stories than a cohesive novel, but this one was cohesive until the very end when she started having to tie up all the loose ends....anwyay.....it was a funny book with a nice message
good thing 9: i had book club tonight with some of my very favorite people......
good thing 10: we read a book i did NOT love ...in fact, i had a very hard time reading it! ...but the discussion was quite good.....as is often the case....controversial books sometimes have more to discuss than good books.....we'd read.....the memory keeper's daughter.......
i'll just stop at a nice round number, and not include a number 11...where i would say that i'm blogging with bon jovi unplugged on VH1 on in the background...but then i'd start looking for a picture of him and get all bogged down in bon jovi internet surfing and it's best just to go to bed.......so....i'll stick with a nice round ten good things.......
and an art note......i've been thinking about angels lately.......in relation to my art......so do i make mona an angel or do i actually paint a face of my own angel notion......stay tuned........

a puzzle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a mystery
day three of allison week was a humongous success......as you can see by this painting.......even with all the kids around, i had plenty of time to work on three canvases in allison's art studio....the other two are available on my flickr site, of course......
so....i didn't finish this mona at allison's......we had to dash off to the swimming pool to keep the swarming children at bay......so, i finished it tonight after dinner.......the keys, the lock, the yellow bits.......so, mostly done at al's.......but finished recently...i even took the photo before the glue was REALLY dry......
hope you are having a happy summer ...full of art and sunshine and mysterious smiles......

what do e. beck and marie antoinette have in common?
it is day two of allison week......today, allison and i took our kids to the high museum
......
1. we saw the gates of paradise exhibit...fabulous bits of a gorgeous door from florence.......
2. we saw the standing contemporary art exhibit (always a crowd favorite, my crowd, anyway)
3. we saw an outsider artist/folk art exhibit .....i've seen it loads of times, but always love it.....the howard finster encrusted bike is a favorite bit for me, as is the room of howard finsterness......also saw the artist mose t.....he has a piece that looks a bit like an ogre to me.....a big round mouth at the bottom corner of the face.....and i always want to have a word bubble there...what is that colorful fellow saying.......grand art.......
4. we saw Annie Leibovitz's photography exhibit....just stunning!
5. we saw the louvre exhibit....louis the xiv, xv, and xvi were all highlighted......decadent souls that they were, i don't imagine i'd have been pals with them, but they had grand ideas about art........marie antioinette, the last queen of france and way big spender had a beautiful bust at the exhibit......of course, my eye was instantly drawn to her headband......so we now have, nancy drew preppy, e.beck earthy, and marie antioinette chic.......who else wears a headband.....apparently a headband has no barriers of age, class, or sophistication......
if you go to ANY museum, i HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY....no, higher than that....i highly recommend getting the headsets....the seven of us listened and learned at the louvre exhibit....it was fab......no mention was made of the head band, and yet, it was a pivotal moment for me......i do think that the kids, especially, get a ton out of listening to the headphones......
then we went to lunch.....einstein bagel's......spinach florentine bagel with a DAB of cream cheese, for me......
then we drove through virginia highlands....allison and i reminisced about our olden days...and that our olden days were in the same spot but separate.....
then....screech....stop the car.....cool gallery sighting.......the outsider inside gallery.......had to do the pull around the block and try again thing...but we went on in......and it was the grooviest coolest TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY gallery.....with howard finsters on the walls....and a mose t. that looked SO just like the one at the high...what are the chances......then allison saw a piece from an artist that she knows and loves, helene lacelle
......and owns some of her pieces.......a canadian outsider artist......what are the chances......then the owner of the gallery looked at allison and said....don't i know you? .....yes! what are the chances? long lost friends ...one an artist and one a gallery owner......and neither knew the other had any kind of art thing in her soul......what are the chances.......
we rounded our day with milkshakes, some dog walking, some polly pocket time, some websurfing of oustider art and howard finster.......
and there you have it......
art field trip accomplished.....
and for those of you keeping track....my headband today is pink red orange yellow and tan......tra la la.......

You Are Big Bird |
Talented, smart, and friendly... you're also one of the sanest people around. You are usually feeling: Happy. From riding a unicycle to writing poetry, you have plenty of hobbies to keep you busy. You are famous for: Being a friend to everyone. Even the grumpiest person gets along with you. How you life your life: Joyfully. "Super. Duper. Flooper." |
i was all done with adding these goofy tests into my blog!! and then....i find one that seemed pretty accurate......how odd to be big bird......
this is what happens when summer tv is all reruns and i spend my evening surfing the web with no favorite show to steal my attention away!!!!
i believe that if i squinch my eyes up tight and think really, really hard, that you will actually be able to tell that i am channeling nancy drew
seven of us went to see nancy drew today....it was oh! so! fab! .......i loved it.....it was actually the best movie i've seen in ages .....i actually seldom go to movies...but even if i'd seen every single solitary one out this year, i believe that i would still be telling you that nancy drew was oh! so! fab!
and because you are wondering.....
here are the ways i am SO like nancy drew
1. i have a mac (nancy uses her for all manner of important things)
2. i love my mac (she sleeps with hers in the bed, not sure i love mine THAT much)
3. my ipod, like nancy's, is fake coolness, it doesn't really fit me at all, the two guys in my life do most of my ipod tweeking and the littlest girl in my house actually thinks the ipod should belong to her, not me...santa's error in stocking aim (nancy drew has an ipod but it doesn't quite fit her retro self)
4. i LOVE headbands....i believe i've worn one EVERY day this summer...my cool friend, tricia, got me on them...but i'm pretty sure if she'd known ahead of time that i'd start wearing them every day that she would have never gotten me started (nancy has some SWEET headbands.....very perky....mine are a titch more bohemian...or, i'm delusional...not sure which)
5. i just asked my son how i am LIKE nancy drew and he looked at me like i had three heads.....just showing, nancy and i are both surrounded by people who love us because of our quirkiness, not in spite of it (no, you may not email me and argue this point)
6. we both drive vehicles a bit past their prime (honda keeps sending me mail telling me that it's time to trade in or trade up....but i got it a week before sophie was born and am thinking i can at least hold out til she's ten......she's six and a half now....nancy's car is way older......no andy, i don't need a new car, i want to be like nancy drew....i'm driving this one til it is retro)
7. enthusiasm..... when i get an idea into my wee little brain, i have trouble letting it go......nancy just can't give up her sleuthing....
8. nancy paints a picture, based on a famous one......my mona lisa is her george washington......
9. nancy doesn't wear heels....not suitable for running from the bad guys..and chasing down clues.....from now on when someone asks why i won't and don't wear heels, i'll mention channeling nancy drew......
10. nancy drew has a little bit of artsy crafty girl in her (disparagingly called martha stewart) ......and i, certainly, have that artsy crafty bit in me too.......
so, on this, my art blog, i am sorry to say, i've not arted today......i had a playdate with allison and her kids.......we went to lunch and a movie...and right when i got home our power went out!!! ....and my windowless basement art room was too pitch black for anything!!

you can call me snappy
|
so, i'm a snapdragon in the online world of "take a short test that will divine from the questions what abstraction most suits you"..... kind of fun......i VIVIDLY remember snapdragons in my mormor's garden...... and there are snapdragons in the garden at church annually....so i have taught my children about the bite of the flower just like my grandmother taugth me.......so what flower are you?

best pal, al
yippee, zippy, yahoooooooooo......

lola's gallery for allison's first grand whoooooha! and it was lovely fun.......she had two full walls of canvases in the grooviest of groovy galleries.....73 pieces of art, i believe!! that's a lot.........and she was selling her charming charms.....ladybird and license plate pendants......
for total grooviness, go see allison's fabulous art HERE........
it is awfully nice to have such a groovy friend......and i think she is very nearly real and true famous now........

need a lemon?
my deadline was midnight tonight.....and it is 9.15...not bad......
i had a day of vbs.....
took the kids to the pool.....
stole an hour or two and did ART.....
pawned off dinner onto sweet husband so i could finish this....
ate family dinner......
searched high and low and high and low and again...searched high and low....and finally found all the camera paraphanalia i needed to take the picture and get pics sucked out of the camera and onto the computer! ......i know, i know, if i had unpacked when i got home, things would be easeir to find! .......
so.....deadline painting group......gastronomy was the subject......in my mind i knew it was something food....was it edible? delicious? .......not sure this really fits in a gastronomy challenge....but you get what you get.....
i had loads of ideas for this...but just couldn't get any of them working for me......i was actually abandoning my deadline work to do some soothing monopoly flowers when it struck me that i could do some fruit and do art that soothed my soul AND fit into the eat it category....more or less?
anyway.....stolen art minutes can be glorious.......
this piece is now sitting in my family room....high up on the ledge next to the landing of the stairs...where i SEE it every time i look up to watch *so you think you can dance* ......can you tell what that orange vase is? i was happy when i came up with that......and then just dictionary lemons wasn't enough...so i added some bingo berries.....if you aren't getting a great enough view, click on that bit that takes you to flickr and you can do closeups.....
tra la la......anyone want some lemonade?

art today
i've had a relatively artsy day considering the busy tilt of my life at the moment.....
1. at VBS today i spent most of my time in the arts and crafts room....we have a habitat for humanity theme so the kids were all painting houses....i however, was painting paper towels.....just piling them up on top of each other to collect the extra moisture.....i came home with a big pile....and have spray fixed them now....i think that will work .....they look groovy tie dyed.....
2. i MEANT to work on my deadline painting, due tomorrow (eek!) ....but instead worked on a monopoly board and background.....it is looking groovy....i was going to put a mona on it but it just wasn't happening for me......so instead i'm doing flowers....in a very nice go to jail kind of vase....not done....but nearly....even if i did happen to be done, i'm not sure i'd be snapping a photo for you...since i'm not sure my camera has been unpacked from my trip....mom and roberta have both sent me links to their zillion photos, but no, not me......mine are in the camera which is in a pile on my desk (i hope!) ....so....just to be clear....i did some groovy toovy work on a monopoly piece....large....three foot square......
3. i did a collage for tomorrow's VBS.....i used a magazine (real simple) to find swaths of color...and used them to make a simple house scene....house, grass, tree, sunshine....all on a dictionary page.........julia said it wasn't my best work, but that it would be fine as an example.....
4. i ripped 100 and something pages out of my dictionary ....so the kids can each have a dictionary page to work on if they want....i bet some won't want to....too weird! .....this is my second dictionary and it's at about half shred.......it used to be about three inches thick......my first art attacked dictionary was less than two inches thick ....
5. i have a mona lisa with yellow sleeves and a red tank top...and lands end pants and shoes......ready to hold some yellow flowers......but my deadline painting group (deadline tomorrow at midnight!!) has a theme of food......edible.....i need to go look and get the exact wording.......so, i was thinking i could have her with something edible.......i've been eating a lot of watermelon of late....maybe mona would like that too.....
6. i woke up thinking about art......sweet drew had gotten in my bed when he woke up.....so i told him i had a deadline on wednesday.....he hassled ME about not doing it ahead of time......wonder where he's heard THAT lecture before....ugh....then he came up with two FAB ideas that i had not thought of....do another mona ice cream cone....one has sold, one is at lola's gallery....there's a spot in my house where HE thinks we should have our own mona ice cream......** .......his other great idea was lollypop flowers.....which i've never done but sure sounds appealing.....how'd he think of that......just when i think he isn't paying attention, he knows me better than i thought he did.....
**and the asterisks up there were to hold that thought....i have a problem in my house because any piece i create, spends some time in my family room or haning up somewhere.....and, with alarming frequency, someone becomes attached to a piece and gets annoyed with me when i SELL it.....you sold MY favorite piece? ....where is the ______painting? ...... and instead, i'm the opposite....i wish they would all just magically transport from my house into the home where they are meant to be....
....now it is time to make dinner.....so, just to put that off, perhaps i'll look for my camera....and download pics....and edit them....and upload them to kodak gallery....and email them to everyone i know......surely no one is actually hungry...they could have ice cream or watermelon......

3. i did a collage for tomorrow's VBS.....i used a magazine (real simple) to find swaths of color...and used them to make a simple house scene....house, grass, tree, sunshine....all on a dictionary page.........julia said it wasn't my best work, but that it would be fine as an example.....
4. i ripped 100 and something pages out of my dictionary ....so the kids can each have a dictionary page to work on if they want....i bet some won't want to....too weird! .....this is my second dictionary and it's at about half shred.......it used to be about three inches thick......my first art attacked dictionary was less than two inches thick ....
5. i have a mona lisa with yellow sleeves and a red tank top...and lands end pants and shoes......ready to hold some yellow flowers......but my deadline painting group (deadline tomorrow at midnight!!) has a theme of food......edible.....i need to go look and get the exact wording.......so, i was thinking i could have her with something edible.......i've been eating a lot of watermelon of late....maybe mona would like that too.....
6. i woke up thinking about art......sweet drew had gotten in my bed when he woke up.....so i told him i had a deadline on wednesday.....he hassled ME about not doing it ahead of time......wonder where he's heard THAT lecture before....ugh....then he came up with two FAB ideas that i had not thought of....do another mona ice cream cone....one has sold, one is at lola's gallery....there's a spot in my house where HE thinks we should have our own mona ice cream......** .......his other great idea was lollypop flowers.....which i've never done but sure sounds appealing.....how'd he think of that......just when i think he isn't paying attention, he knows me better than i thought he did.....
**and the asterisks up there were to hold that thought....i have a problem in my house because any piece i create, spends some time in my family room or haning up somewhere.....and, with alarming frequency, someone becomes attached to a piece and gets annoyed with me when i SELL it.....you sold MY favorite piece? ....where is the ______painting? ...... and instead, i'm the opposite....i wish they would all just magically transport from my house into the home where they are meant to be....
....now it is time to make dinner.....so, just to put that off, perhaps i'll look for my camera....and download pics....and edit them....and upload them to kodak gallery....and email them to everyone i know......surely no one is actually hungry...they could have ice cream or watermelon......

how extroverted are YOU?
...so....i took a test......an online personality test.....just a fun thing that i found on a blog ....always fun....so...mine said i am a considerate creator...which sound SUPER......please, think i'm considerate....please, call me a creator......but heavens......on the extrovert scale, don't you dare call me 4% ...... that is absurd.....94% certainly.......but 4 % ? doesn't that mean i'm scared to go out my front door for fear i'll have to speak to someone........
ok.....i took the test again......
now i am an animated creator.....and i'm 96 on the extrovert scale......all my scores are more extreme that before...very high or very low...that's what happens when you take the test again....apparently i answered with who i WANT to be......oh well!

here's a funny thing.....
background......i was surfing the net and got my doodle on a while back....became a full on big time doodler.......
more background....my youngest, sophie, is addicted to post it notes....she frequently fills out an entire pad of them with her own doodles and writings (she's six) and then applies them to a door, window or wall.....much like christo, the artist who wraps islands in pink cellophane......the artist who does large and strange art installations.......
more background....i like to doodle......and i have access to multitudes of post it notes.......
the real post.....
i was surfing the web this evening....and found this
off to doodle on a post it...and then mail it to england......

green orange purple blue
GREEN |
You are a very calm and contemplative person. Others are drawn to your peaceful, nurturing nature.
my favorite color is green......always has been..... i'm a little on the spastic side.......though i do have a calm bit to me......
but i woke up today thinking about orange....isn't that odd? to wake up with a color in my head?
i had a dream last night about my family of five at the beach with the dog.....i just got back from the beach, but only four of us were there.....anyway....in the dream, we all had on orange bathing suits......matchy matchy swim suits....... which just goes to show it was a dream....i love dressing my kids in the same tshirts or whatever......on trips i get everyone to wear a red shirt on the same day.....under the guise of "easier to spot you in a crowd" ...but actually just cause i like the matching..... anyway......i don't remember much about the dream besides all of us in orange bathing suits at the beach.......
so i put on my orange crocs this morning.......
purple is last on my list of my favorites.....next to chocoloate cake......i can manage chocolate cake and purple....but never, ever my first choice.........(oh, revelation, key lime pie is green AND my favorite...coincidence? i think not)
....anyway, dixie dog spent the week with allison and olivia.......she (dixie, not one of the girlfriends) chewed through her collar while i was gone.......dixie is now sporting a vivid purple collar........i'm certain olivia picked it out...... allison is always teasing me for my unpurpleness......or did allison choose it and is taunting me...hmmmmmmmm......
my dad's favorite color is blue........happy father's day to any dads reading this.... not that i know of any! i think it is a girl thing to read art blogs.....mostly, anyhoooooo ......

hi, honey....i'm home.....
...i'm home...and too tired to enchant you with a photo attachment....my camera is tucked away in some bag still......my three children and i have spent a week with my parents and one of my brothers and his lovely wife and four fabulous children.....in case your math skills are tremulous today, that is SEVEN happy cousins.......it was so great to be with them.....and so sad to leave them....but then, awfully nice to come back to my husband and the dog.....i'm pretty sure he is wondering who we all missed more...him or the dog......but she's still a puppy.....just missing a day with her and she grows and changes so much.......
i'm certain i could ramble on FOREVER having not been on a keyboard for a week......so i'll try to be organized in my thoughts...
1. i JUST had a revelation....i really, really, really like typing.......the whole notion of putting down what i think as i think it is appealing......i've had bits of my life when i've really wanted to be a writer.....maybe i'm not going to grow up and be a writer.....but i sure do like it still......
2. i bought 7 groovy scrapbooky journals at the dollar spot at target (i adore that dollar spot!) and i took them to the beach .....we seven girls had artsy journalling nearly every day......my mom is an artist....my sis in law, roberta, was a queen scrapbooker ten years ago and is very crafty artsy....and of course all four little grils are artists....aged six to 11, none of them have any doubts about their complete artistic ability.....how old are we when we lose that confidence?....so.....while away, i did a few pages in my doodle journal and my sketch journal......but i finished out my WHOLE entire journey journal.........yippee for finished projects! .....(have i ever mentioned that i filled in an entire HUGE journal for my england trip as well?)
3. one of the BESTEST things i've ever had the good sense to buy was (last summer) a very groovy kodak camera bundled on amazon with a printer dock......the whole caboodle is quite small...and portable...and travels well....it's gone on loads of trips......so, it went to the beach....and the seven journalling girls printed out pics for their books..... reminding me all over again how groovy that camera and printer are.......
4. i have a deadline painting group DEADLINE this week....and of course have not done anything for it....ack.....i'm sure i'll be able to scrounge through my canvases and find one that has a luscious background and be inspired by it...otherwise, i have some long work to do!!!
5. i came home today to ninety-ish emails on one email address......200 on another email address....and 6 on another.....did i read them? nope....first i checked in on all the blogs that i follow.......that's a lot of reading! i no longer need reality tv ...instead i have reality art blogs to pass my evenings.......i'm still sitting next to the hubby on the couch.......i just can let him have the remote more often........is that bad? i wield the remote in our family! well.....not during the super bowl or world series or big things that i don't care about! ........where was i ? oh...... i love my art blogs....
not to self: i need to update my blog list of blogs i read........
6. when i do a canvas, i prop it up in my family room...on the mantle, on the shoe table, on the book shelf, by the tv...in front of the fireplace....just wherever it fits......depending on how much i've been producing........so...coming home today it was funny to look at my art...some of it that i hadn't thought about at all.....had i forgotten about those new monoploly flowers? i LIKED them a lot.....and there are some jump for joy pigs hanging on the wall by my bathroom....very cute...what painting was there that i was willing to take down to put up the new pigs?
7. I got my letter from marist about the fall art show.......i paid...i'm in......and i'm worried i don't really, really, really want to do it....i sold a bunch at it last year......but i'm not sure i want to be an art fair girl.....not that i'm sure i know what i do want to be....just an artist whose works are miraculously sold with little effort.....so they don't pile up too, too high in the basement...... it is a bit of a pain that i most love HUMONGO canvases.......small would be easier to store and transport.....anyway.......i didn't give away much of my art for christmas last year...but maybe have to this year......postman, you did such a great job for me this year, have a three foot by four foot canvas as a small token of my esteem......whaddaya mean you don't like flowers made out of dictionaries......no, you have to take it.......
8. my mom and dad brought me a hand me down book of the new york times front pages....and TOLD me to use them in my art.......they offered the book to me and i said no...they told me to do art with it....and well, whaddaya know.....i'm going to be doing new york times tulips soon, i suppose......
9. i now feel the need to doodle....this will be a week of stolen art minutes...i have no grand expanses of time scheduled for studio time...oh no!! .......but....stolen minutes can work.....we'll see how it goes......check back!

bingo bouquet
happy thursday, it was......
that sounds like yoda.....
i had a fabulous thursday.....
that sounds more like me.......
allison came over today for a play date...i mean, an art date.......she brought her olivia to play with my kids......it's a summer thing.....stolen art moments.....the kids actually did some painting along side us for a bit......
this piece has been a backgrounded beginning for ages and ages......just red and monopoly...then months later the yellow...then months later, the stamping and stencils on the red border......and finally, today, finished all together........
but let me tell you about yesterday......i was tidying my studio, which, as usual, had kind of gotten out of control.......i'm fairly organized, until i get a project going, then i'm not very good about putting things away back in their proper bins and drawers and tubs and such........
here's how i make my mess, primarily: i'm a bit frugal...ok, i'm a lot frugal.....and i HATE wasting paint...so anytime i use paint on a pallette, i can't just wash it away, i use it.....i use it to paint a white canvas....or i paint a map....or i paint a chapter of a novel....in anticipation of using these new painted bits at a later date....
...and then i lay them about on the table, the floor, the cupboards, the treadmill....any nearly flat surface at hand.....to dry......and then i don't really put them away well...they just sit about....and when they are in the way they get moved out of the way, stacked, slid, shoved.....but not actually put in a proper that's-where-it-belongs spot......i did have such a spot....a tub...that was full....with three times more paper than can actually fit in it......
so, i bought 9 clipboards....one dollar each! ....and i sorted out my papers by color.....red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, pink.......all on their own clipboard....sorted ALL the paper out......now it is a thing of beauty....that was yesterday......
today, i went into my art room and looked at those clipboards....yippee.....i want orange flowers and i have gorgeous orange paper just ready and waiting....i even had a choice of light orange, tangerine orange, pumpkin orange, burnt orange, and barely orange with lots of white still showing through...... i chose tangerine......and purple.....yippee....i am NOT a purple girl, but what a joy to have a clipboard full of purpliness......and i chose my purple novel papers......and then some red for some tiny circles......the joy of organization! .....urrrr....i'm sure that has never even been thought by me, let alone typed or spoken.....so i shall say it now....aloud....the joy of organization.....ooops.....doesn't ring true! ha.....anyway...this small titch of organized grooviness will suit me fine....until i mess it up! ...it will be an interesting psychological study to see what i do with my next batch of freshly painted papers.......will i stack them? or sort them? or correctly file them onto their gorgeous clipboards?.......
only time will tell!
ps....i put all sorts of notes on this last pic on my flickr site...... go see the picture with hidden notes HERE.....

happy day
hi everybody....i'm home......
my family of five was in england...visiting my oldest brother's family of five......when it was time to leave england, we weren't ready to go home.... until sophie remembered we absolutely couldn't stay any longer....we had to hurry home for the dog......
the week before london, i picked up six pieces of pottery from the kiln room.....this one i gave to ashley as a thank you for taking such good care of my baby....i mean, my dog......
thanks, dear ashley...and a happy day to you.......
while in england i was very dilligent in my journal keeping......to the point that i was rationing the last few journal pages, for fear i'd run out before the trip was over......one week, and one whole journal smashed full of happiness......rah!
while in england i went to the tate modern....FABULOUS museum.....before going in (while eating ice cream) i asked my kids what artists we should search for inside....they named picasso, matisse, monet, warhol, and pollock....we saw all of them except a pollock.......multiple picassos, a superlative orangey matisse collage, a GRAND and LARGE monet, a brillo warhol, but, alas, no pollock....or not that we could find......we also spent a bit of time in a room FULL of rothko's.....we saw a mondrian that my kids pointed out as one they KNOW i'd love and ooooh and aaahhhhh......there was a huge lichtenstein that we all appreciated (maybe not so much andy, actually) ......a great calder mobile......i could go on and on.......i'd like to tell you that the tate modern was my favorite bit of our england trip....but really, probably just having my kids with their cousins was probably the best.....and the best place was probably warwick castle.......like the plate says: happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy, happy day
