redorangeyellowgreenblue

how do you pick out a paint color for a room? ... match it to a speck in the rug? ... do four shades litghter than the secondary color of your favorite painting? ..... pour through paint colors and pick one that speaks to you? .... pour through decorating magazines and find a good looking room and match the color? .... let someone else decide? .... it seems that i have a limited ability to pick colors .... i only want the ones that i put in my paintings! and that means bright .... eep!

but! i've picked my colors for most of my newly renovated house .... see these below ... ten is the bottom color .. the most intense .... moving up to 70, least intense, very pale pastel ....
kitchen? 2014-30... tangy orange ... reference this painting of orange tanginess.....

family room? 2021-30 ... sunshine ... go see this painting of sunshine yellow joy ... or this one of lovely yellow happiness ...

sun room? 2029-30 .... rosemary green .... go see my green happiness here .....
dining room? same green as my sun room .... one is a the front of the house, one is at the back ... so it will kind of tie the whole house together (or, that's what i tell myself so that i don't have to pick yet another color!)

and library? well ..... living room really ... but we call it the library cause we're just not living room people .... and mostly it's where the books are ... and mostly where the kids do homework .... library? 2055-40 ... bahama blue .... like you can see in this painting of blueness .....

so .... are any of the colors in your house this saturated? or are your colors all subtle or elegant or calm .... i'm neither subtle, nor elegant, nor calm .... so my house shan't be either .....

what color is your favorite room in your house?

my colors are warm earth tones. nothing bright. so I am no help. oh, I do have a dark red in our family room. it took us FOREVER to decide on the shade. we took lots of color cards, maybe 15 different shades of red, lined them up on the floor in front of the wall and looked at them at various times of the day (critical). we would remove a card when it looked ugly/too purple/too brown, etc according to the sunlight. it took us more than a month. the color STILL didn't quite capture what we wanted, but I love it anyway.

love the colors!
and I think I want the job of naming the paint colors - that sounds like a fun job

I hope that anonymous wasn't sending you a love letter... I can't WAIT to see the joy of your new casa!
And when are we painting this week!

All the rooms in my (new) house are various shades of off-white (who knew there were SO MANY shades of off-white!), because I tend to prefer neutral walls and then color in other places (furniture, art, etc.) I'm also an idiot about color, so better to keep it simple. The two couches in my great room are pomegranate, though, and I love the splash of color against creamy walls and pretty stained wood.

if you're asking for a decorating opinion, i may be the wrong person as i once painted a kitchen bright white upper walls, cobalt trim and chairrail thingy, and canary-daffodil yellow on the wainscoting...in an apt in boston. my landlord was not pleased.

so i'm all for brights and would love your blue in any room in my house!

my current home fav is the robin's egg blue of my kitchen and family/tv room. or is it the blushy pale peach of the lr/dr? the robin's egg.

I'm the same way - only want pizazzy colors - not so good with whitened down. I know you will choose well.

love them all! my kinda house! all the colors in my house are this saturated. on the outside, my house is "papa smurf" blue with white trim, pink porch ceilings, and aqua green doors. inside, my great room/dining/kitchen is a salmon color, my bedroom is green, my girls bedroom is yellow, and our guest bedroom is a light, not- quite-lavender purple. i love color!
