sunday reminiscing.....

so .... i taught an artsy class today ....
but .... i did no art in my studio today ....
i had loads of time for art.... but kind of puttered around instead .... i was actually kind of being domestic ...not my usual state .... at all ....
as i was doing extra tidying in my kitchen, i was dusting this corner:
dog biscuits, plate of apples, bananas, empty huge mason jar that last had jelly beans in it .... and a platter ... that i made ..... i threw that on a pottery wheel....with white clay .... and then used groovy underglazes to make this folkarty scene .... of my family ..... i made it a LONG time ago ..... and i love it ..... it's maybe one of my favorite things i've ever made for myself .... making things for yourself is different than making something not for yourself ..... it's harder! ..... so...... i was dusting it .... and read the back .... i don't think i'd read the back in years:

OH! i said to myself ... i made this while i was pregnant with littlest.e.beck.artist.......more than 7 years ago ....i think i gave it to mr.e.beck.artist for christmas before the littlest one was born........ it has withstood the test of time so far ... i still love it .... it makes me miss the pottery wheel.......

ok, artsy bloggy people..... show me something that you made a long time ago.... and tell me if you still love it!

OH that plate is precious! (At first I thought it might have been a gift from Roberta!)

Oh - this is beautiful - especially the writing on the back! You are right - making things for ourselves IS harder...why is that?

Also, puttering is nice - I've been doing quite a bit of domestic puttering these past few weeks and it has been kind of nice to get things in order around the house while inside, ideas for new projects are bubbling! =)

I'll be mailing your pin soon!

Writing on the back was a lovely idea. I wish I'd done that on some of the things I've made. What a sweet reminder when you glimpse it again after so long.

Are we able to share a picture in your comment section to show you???

Guess I'll try and find out!

My son, Elliot MOSTLY made this picture when he was three years old. I just decided which way it went and added a title. "pre-dawn"

This picture still gives me chills every time I look at it. I still have many of Elliot's childhood paintings franed and hanging in the house. He'll be 26 this year!

alrighty then . . . let's see if this one works. If not, I have no idea how to show you a pic unless I just post it on my own blog, or email it to you.
