should be thinking red white and blue ... but i've got orange for you ....

this little desk is from my elementary school ... my mom gave it to me about ten years ago .... it's usually been in one of my kids' bedrooms ... but, for the house reno, while i was getting all sorts of other furniture painted, i got this painted calypso orange .... and it now has a prime spot in the family room ... the family room paint is called sunshine yellow .... those books are called harvard classics ... and when i was a kid they were in our house on that exact same bookshelf .... they were the go to books in highschool .... if you needed all of walt whitman's poems, the iliad, socrates, or to do a little research on olde english poets, these were sure to have what you needed .... i've browsed all of them, read some of them, and love the set-ness of them .... on the top of the shelves, the plant is in a pot that have each of my kids' handprints on it .... and then two pieces of pottery that i made in my wheel days .... the bowl holds mr.e.beck.artist's wallet, phone and id badge when he gets home ... the other is for his loose change that he always has a preponderance of ... no quarters though .. he keeps quarters in circulation .... from this spot, i'm near the couch in the family room ... to the right is the new sunroom addition ... to the left is the kitchen ....

so that's my house update for the day .... an orange groovy toovy desk .... that little.e.beck.artist says she'll do her homework in this fall .... for now it just looks fun ....

do you have any fun useless furniture at your house?

love it!

unfortunately my fav 'useless furniture is currently in storage in MA. didn't quite make the move, then the move got crowded, so i have an antique church bench for an historical church in harvard square and and really neat 2 seater bench with a one armed bandit at one seat. i want to retrieve it that in my travels later this summer to go into s's bedroom. the curch pew however, i may truck over to an antique store in the end....i always wanted a long mudroom to put that in....

Loved your post! I have an 'old school' theme going in my studio. I have an oak teachers desk, a very old student desk, ( with ink hole!), & metal lockers. My mantra has always been: Life is the school, Love is the lesson! I figure I am on Planet Earth to learn something!
