...i especially like the brazillian one ... i got the info here .....

and here's a list of the top ten resolutions every year .... how many of them have you made in years gone by? ... i'm currently most inclined to 8 and 10 .... and i'm good at 2, so should be better at 3 than i am ...4, 5, 6, 7 are NO problem for me ... and 1 .. that's kind of all i ever do ... so ... that leaves 9 ... not a bad resolution to have by default ....

here's another list:

-my 2005 resolution was to clean a closet a month ... did that ... SO boring ...

-my 2006 resolution was to read and journal about 100 books ... did that .... i thought i wanted to be a writer ... come to find out, i'm a great reader and an unmotivated writer ... why is that?

-my 2007 resolution was to play 500 games in the year ... did that ... SO fun ... got to 514 ....very good for my family to do that one ... fun, fun

-my 2008 resolution was to complete 100 canvases in a year ... did that ... VERY good for me .. highly motivating ... i should just do it again, but that might be dull to do a redux ....

-my 2009 resolution is, as of yet, undecided ...... should it be art? home? exercise? organization? self help? learning something? learning what? spanish, french, welding, spelunking (i'm not sure you can be a successful spelunker in this city), photoshop (YES, i do need to learn that), french cooking, belly dancing (i have a girlfriend who does this), video editing?  ... i've actually learned that quantifiable is very important .... to make the resolution specific ....

i started this list at 2004 cause i don't remember before that .... they were all boring, probably ... except the one year that i read the WHOLE bible... 1999ish .... don't ask me any questions about it though ... i was reading FAST and sleepy most of the time ...

SO... two questions for you to ponder through the new year ...

what resolution should i have this year ...

AND

what resolution will YOU have this year ....  and don't say my resolution is to not have any resolutions .... where's the fun in that one ... if you don't want a hard resolution, make a fun one ... like eating chocolate every day .... or like going to 20 movies this year ... or to bungee jump ... or to write a dream journal .... or .... well ... go ahead ... resolve away ... i'm listening .....

Yeah sure make me think...
A friend asked me what I had planned along this line a couple weeks ago...she also requested I not stop the blog (was she nuts stop blogging!)...
I had a great resolution revilation one night -- then I went to sleep and can't think what it was to save my life.
But yes dear e I take a page from your book and I will resolve something!

what a fabulously thoughtful post, dear e! ok, it's ;ate and my brain is about an hour past shutdown, so I'll try to ponder this one in my dreams tonight & will hopefully have the answer when I wake ... if not, I'll just make one up. :)

hmmmmmm....i'll have to think on that one.....i need one, too----2008 I gave myself the year off from resolutions......do you have any ideas for me? What if you did some combo thong...or one resolution for each month.....or some community service type resolution......or knitting a scarf each month......don't you have a blogging knitter friend?? 20 movies is doable.....I think I've seen about 5 or 6 so far since we started our holiday break....tonight DH and I went to Australia (with free movie passes even!) Very good. Last night we all watched a Harry Potter movie together.....well, not #1....he was at his DGF's house watching a different movie---the Illusionist, I think....#4 has a fever...so no going out tomorrrow....Happy New Year!
Love, Roberta :)

I have a lot of resolutions this year or maybe not really resolutions, but goals rather. I'm a great list maker. Sometimes too good. Anyway, last year I put out there that I was going to create weekly then like you, I needed a measurable goal so by June I changed it to 52 in 26 weeks. By having something I could reach for and measure, it was more achievable for me.

What do you want to do this year artistically? Do you want to do a journal in 2009? Get back to your writing perhaps? Work on x number of large pieces or x number of small pieces? There's so many things to work towards, my problem is wanting to do them all so I'm no much help!

For me, one of my goals/resolution is to work on one large piece a month. I really want to make a living out of my artistic endeavors but it's not going to happen with 6 dollar magnets and 50 dollar canvases selling here and there. I need to create a body of work that will build a pipeline of opportunity down the road.

Sorry about the long comment..lol!

Happy New Year!~!!

Resolving to eat chocolate every day is not an option...I do already!! getting rid of the bulge should be the first resolution for me, but that needs to be done and I work on it all the time - except over the holiday break! I have to think those through and have a couple days left to do so... perhaps I should resolve to get my conputer files, especially photos, organized. that will be one resolution. and to learn photoshop Elements for sure! Happy New Year to ALL!

My New Year's Resolutions:

1. Finish list of resolutions
2. Finish something I started
3. Start something I haven't started
4. Relax

I actually borrowed this from something our son wrote many years ago. See my blog about An Eleven Year Old's To Do List. (sorry I don't know how to do that link thing yet).

BTW Elizabeth, you are very funny. I read your radio interview and that was funny too. I agree about laundry chores. Can't we just find some cute mice to do it like Cinderella did.

Happy New Year to you and your family! New Year's Resolutions...for you? Wow, what are you thinking by putting that out here for us? Go for the language...learn a new one! That's always very challenging! Or double your art numbers...200? Sure!

Mine? None yet...last year I decided to work on my Etsy store and am happy with my year there. Maybe for '09 I'll work on my Lollishop store...I only have one sign listed there!

I know I won't make any resolutions that pertain to food: No way, no how...like it all too much.

I know I won't make any resolutions that pertain to exercising... No way, no how...don't like that at all! (I do enjoy walking, but won't resolve more or less!)

So..there you are! (Thanks for the personal Christmas greetings...loved your letter!)
Love, Heidi

Good parties, indeed! I like that one too. I didn't know Brazil had its own language. My resolution, for now, is getting to the gym 3x per week. But I hurt my knee (walking of all things) and so I'm thinking I need to completely rest it b/c it hasn't gotten better. It's been a week. I'm mighty piffed b/c I'm very motivated. Argh.

My resolution this year is to complete an art journal. I did not specify length or theme, nor did I insist on more than one. I didn't want to scare myself. However, knowing what I know about myself, I'm pretty sure I'll have several of varying sizes by the end of the year. And if not, I'll have the one! which is more than I have made so far!

I don't know about what you 'should' have, but when I was conceiving this journaling goal, I did consider making each journal spread another letter, with a poem about the letter, a photo based on the letter, and a play on words starting with the letter trapped like a puzzle in my journal. I may toy with this even in my art journal, but it will not be planned, it will just be happenstance and sporadic. Also, it can't be in alphabetical order. Or, it may just be the letters of the Hawaiian alphabet. Or, the Russian alphabet! Wouldn't that be strange!

Anything that makes me look at the world in a non-habitual way always intrigues me. Maybe a journal all about circles! Wheels, windows, doorknobs, irises, pills, coins, droplets...

Happy New Year, eb !
